TYPE: Mud and Musk Turtles | LEVEL: Intermediate [?]
BASIC INFORMATION:
Mississippi Red- bellied muds are nicely rounded little turtles with red, orange or yellowish bellies and light to dark brown shells.
Red bellied muds are omnivorous feeders. They will take pellets, insects, fish, crustaceans, meat, worms and some aquatic plants. Some are very docile and don't mind being handled, others can be very feisty, but can tame down in time.
Shallow bottom foragers, they do well with other muds and musks and or in community tanks with other species. Adults do well in larger tanks/enclosures or in outdoor ponds.
Not often available, Red Bellied Mud Turtles are nice additions to the bottoms of community turtle, or even fish tanks.
